Question

We have an alarm panel that prints out to an old dot matrix printer. We would like to capture this data on a pc. Will this product work for this application? How do we interface it to the pc? Gender changer and hook it to the existing LPT port on the pc? Can we view the data in real time?

If your printer uses the Centronics interface then you need a Centronics-RS232 converter (for example, http://www.wut.de/e-28000-ww-daus-000.php). In this case you case you can connect your alarm panel to a COM port on the PC and use our software. If your panel prints data through serial interface, then you can connect it to the PC directly and use our software. Serial Printer Logger will show all received data in real time.
